5 Highly Effective Ways To Boost Your Confidence

Confidence is a very important trait we must develop in order to live the life we desire. We live in a world full of fear, there are over a hundred types of known phobias, fear often affects our ability to think and act rationally. In other to overcome our fears we must learn to become confident in ourselves and our abilities. We were all born with gifts and talents and one of the ways in which we can fully utilize these gifts to its maximum potential is through confidence.

Developing self-confidence is not automatic, it requires some effort on your part. One of the first and most important steps in being confident is self-acceptance. Love, and appreciate yourself, embrace your flaws and wear your scars with pride. Some times, the part of ourselves, that we try to hide is the part that holds our greatest reward.

We all have our dreams, aspirations, and desires but they can only be achieved when we accept who we are. If you don’t know and accept who you are, then you’re unknowingly setting yourself up to accept who others think and say you are.

I struggled with low self-confidence in the past, I spent years feeling so small and insignificant while looking at others as big and significant. To be honest, I am still learning to be more confident each day and I do not intend to stop because I’ve come to the realization that I’m important and there’s something in me that the world needs. The same goes for you, you are important and there’s something in you that the world needs. Decide today to introduce your greatness to the world.

Some Ways To Boost Your Confidence

1. Know Who You Are

Self-identity is one thing we’ve all struggled with at some point in life. Who am I? I’ve asked my self this question quite a few times and you probably have done the same. Truth is, it takes time to figure out who you are, we all grow up modeling those we see around us hence it’s easy to want to be like everyone else but yourself. Lack of self-identity is a major roadblock to developing self-confidence because it’s hard to believe in someone you have no knowledge of.

DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU REALLY ARE? Or are you only aware of the person that others think and say you are?

I began my journey to self-discovery about two years ago and it has been a process of learning and growth, the more I’ve discovered who I am and what I can do the more confident I’ve become. Your self-confidence will surely develop as you grow in the knowledge of who you are and what you can do. I must say that the most important part of my journey has been coming into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Growing in knowledge of who He is has helped me to discover, embrace and have confidence in who I am.

Choosing to prioritize your relationship, both with God and yourself will help in developing your confidence. No one else knows you more than the one who created you, so the best way to connect with your true self is by connecting with your creator.

2. Give yourself PepTalks

It’s good to listen to motivational videos and read motivational books and articles, I do this most times and that’s great. But relying solely on these motivational materials is not advisable. It’s important that you learn to become your own motivator. The books and videos should only be there as an inspiration and a guide to help facilitate your growth.

There are times when you would face some difficult situations alone and the only way out is by talking and encouraging yourself through it. There’s always going to be a voice inside your head telling you what you can and cannot do, it’s your responsibility to shut that voice up.

Whenever you think a negative thought, replace that thought by thinking and speaking something positive, do this as many times as you need to until you believe that which you speak. Use the visualization power of your mind and see yourself as confident, because if you can see it, then you can be it.

3. Prepare

Preparation is a very important part of developing self-confidence. Becoming more knowledgeable and seeking to master those situations that make you fearful should become a top priority. The more knowledgeable you are about something, the more likely you are to be confident about that thing.

Preparation is hard work, I sometimes find myself looking for the easy way out but I’m learning that the road to success is not an easy one. If you’re going to get anything done then you must make up your mind to do the hard work.

Sometimes, even after doing all the hard work, it’s still very possible to feel fearful and this is mostly because we feel like we have no control over the situation and we paint a negative picture of the end result. It’s like you already feel like a failure even before you begin. In times like this self-belief and pep talk goes a long way.

Choose to paint a different picture in your mind, one of success instead of failure. Our mind is like a magnet and often attracts that which we tell it to, by our way of thinking. Preparation + confidence + opportunity = Success.

4. Detox your Life

When we hear the word detox we often associate it with weight loss. Yes, physical detox is a good way to cleanse your body and jump-start your weight loss journey, but there are other ways of detoxing that could also help in building your confidence. There’s relationship detox which involves cleansing yourself from toxic people who only seek to destroy you and surrounding yourself with those who support, cheer you on, motivate and inspire you to become the best you.

You can also mind detox which means getting rid of negative thoughts and avoiding or limiting the usage of things that could elicit them, such as social media, news channels, and even some tv shows. Sometimes when I listen to the morning news, I often wonder if there are no good reports anywhere.

These things are not all bad but If we don’t learn how to use them the right way, they would eventually use us. Daily meditation is a very good way to detox your mind and feel at ease with yourself. Having an absolute detox involving the body, mind, and spirit is wonderful, it creates a clean and peaceful environment that allows you to grow, thrive and enjoy life.

5. Do it again

Do it again. Play it again. Sing it again. Write it again. Sketch it again. Rehearse it again. Run it again. Try it again. Because again is practice, and practice is improvement and imrovement only leads to perfection.- Richelle E. Goodrich

I have discovered that confidence grows with experience. The best way to be confident and good at anything is by doing that thing over and over again. It’s annoying sometimes being the newbie or the most inexperienced in a room but always remember that no one ever excelled at anything without constant practice.

When you try something unfamiliar for the first time you will definitely feel uncomfortable, when this happens your response should never be to abandon or avoid that thing but to master it. In the past, I always ran away from things that made me feel uncomfortable but lately, I’m learning to embrace the unfamiliar because that’s where growth occurs. Whatever it is you wish to be more confident doing, practice! practice! practice! and know that your hard work will surely pay off.

Developing self-confidence doesn’t happen overnight. Continual self-growth is vital in becoming a more confident individual. Make a commitment to work on your weaknesses until they become your strengths and soon you’ll marvel at who’s looking back at you in the mirror.
